NaNoWriMo 2017: What Have I Done?

NaNoWriMo 2017 Dont Be Intimidated.jpeg

So today marks the very first day of NaNoWriMo 2017, and now that the high of Halloween is gone, it’s starting to dawn on me just what I’ve signed up for.

What was I thinking? How am I going to manage 4 blogs for myself, and then 2 for clients, plus all our social media pages, edit my 5-book novel series, work on my on-going fan-fiction project, and do 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo?

But I suppose I was thinking, it was time. That if I really want to do something I love, I have to make time for it. I must have known that merely editing novels would not be enough to quell my fiction-writing needs; and after 4 years of working on the same series, it was time to push myself to venture into something new.

What better way to do it, than with hundreds and thousands of other writers around the world, who will spend November stocking up on coffee and tea, and tapping away nervously at their keyboards, while we check the clock, and the calendar, and the word count?

I have never done NaNoWriMo before in my entire life, but I’m looking forward to being a part of the madness, as it unfolds. One can only watch from the sidelines for so long, before one begins to wonder: could I do this? Well this November, we’ll find out!

Have you signed up for NaNoWriMo 2017? Have you ever participated before? Or are you a n00b, like me? Tell me all about it in the comments below!

      1. I am writing this year. I had to go to therapy for my neck before I could type. I will get through this. I’m glad you are joining this year. I can tell you are a strong writer. You will do well. Ruby

      2. Thank you, Ruby. Please do add me on the site. I would love to have you as a writing buddy. We need all the support we can get. 😊

I wish you all the best with the neck injury. You should probably invest in an ergonomic chair, if possible. It would really help. I finally bit the bullet and got one recently. I have a back injury from my teen years.

      3. I can finally reply. I had to talk with my sister. The day is far spent, but I have done this four years. I am going to dive into writing like I did last year. You don’t have to write constantly, but it is a good thing to write until you are finished. I am glad you are joining. I have signed up, but I didn’t say I wasn’t going to write, either. At the end of the month, I continued until I finished my novel. I went on until several months more had passed. Really. I never did anything with the rough draft. I had my book finished as that much, and I left it. This will be another effort. They don’t know us personally per se, but they do recognize your name. I think this is a wonderful conclusion for you. I know you write. Smile. As a new writer for them you will need to fill out the information sheet. I believe it is required yearly.

      4. I’m on for a moment. There was no place to sign up. Just start your book. NaNoWriMo2017 is where I looked around. I will write more tomorrow, and I will start a little at a time. You are not too late to start the book. There are meetings, but if you are in Atlanta, I don’t know where your meets are. It will work out. The ergonomic chair sounds wonderful. It might be like what they have at therapy.

      1. Yes, I have. This is my sixth year participating with Nano. The first two years I didn’t make it, the last three I have. I’m a terrible procrastinator that works better with a kick in the seat of the pants LOL

      2. Haha, have you already fallen behind on the word counts? I’ve been doing good so far. Doubled my goal for last night, and I think I’m making it for tonight. I’m surprised at myself, considering how much else is on my plate right now!

      3. Good for you!!
I got behind the first day LOL First day of Nano, but at work I had to pull all my Halloween cards and endcaps and reset with Christmas – so I ended up with an almost 12 hour day. Didn’t touch the computer. I’ll be having a make-up weekend!
