None of my family members had horses when I was growing up. But, my parents took me to almost every fair, festival and circus they could. At these events, I rode whatever they had, which ranged from horses to donkeys to mules. I also took a few trips where horseback riding was involved, but the last time I did that was in eighth grade.
Riding horses was fairly easy back then because those horses were bred and trained to go from Point A to Point B — with or without direction from their riders. Things are a lot different when you’re riding ranch horses that either need to be told precisely what to do or will essentially do as they please.
