First Stop, Vegas!

I launched this blog in the summer of 2015 to document my travel adventures by air and road.

For the next nine months, I had no permanent address. I bounced from Jamaica to the U.S., and then from state to state. Without a doubt, the nomad life was bliss, but it would not last.

Earlier this year, the first travel ban coupled with political uncertainty regarding immigrants, put a stop to my travel plans. It also put a halt on the launch of our travel services at Alexis Chateau PR.

Travel Plans Trumped

Our fears were not unfounded. A second travel ban followed. We then received confirmed reports of Jamaicans losing their visas and residency status. The most recent report came from a Jamaican with a background in international relations, just last week.

But what is my life without travel? And what’s the point of living in America if I can’t hike its trails, climb its mountains, surf in its oceans, and swim in its streams?

So after careful monitoring of the sociopolitical drama, I decided to take a calculated leap of faith.

Desert Vacation

For those of you who follow me, Shadow, or the company on social media, you already know where I’m headed with this. For everyone else, I’m ecstatic to share that I ticked Las Vegas off my list.

Over the next month, I’ll be sharing short pieces of my trip. But for now, here’s a taste of what’s in store for May.

Day 1: Raving at the Marquee

Marquee - Las Vegas
This was my very first time witnessing the club scene in America.

Day 2: Visiting Europe…in Vegas

Apparently, Vegas has its own Mini-Eiffel Tower beyond the Bellagio Fountains.

Day 3: Getting Lost in the Desert

Yes, I’m hiking in a bathing suit. I had good reason – I promise!

Day 4: Hiking up Lone Mountain

Climbed 3300 feet to the top of this rocky mountain.

Day 5: Finding Water in the Desert

Flying Over Nevada.jpg
I looked outside the window just in time to catch this. In 2 minutes, it was gone.

During my 5-day stay, I hiked up two mountains, went swimming in the desert, attended a rave, found a Taco Bell that serves liquor, and pigged out on sushi. What else could I ask for?

Stay tuned for more!

  1. I’m glad you’re traveling again, although I’m sorry it isn’t international too. I hope you have a wonderful time exploring this country until you feel safe to travel outside of it again

    1. Thanks Cynthia. International travel is still off, and Hawaii and Alaska are included in that for now. But we shall see. The president seems to be preoccupied with other things at the moment.

    1. Thank you! Yes, some is better than none at all. I feel so much better now after my trip to Vegas. It really was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

    1. It was! Although Tristan insisted the views from Red Rock Canyon were better. But we had done the Canyon the day before and I wanted to try something new 🙂

  2. Gorgeous pictures!! Looks like you are having a great time! I’m glad to hear you are still following your heart, soul, and the travel pull. I can’t wait to see where you go next!

  3. Isn’t that town one of the weirdest places on earth? I remember asking the cab driver where all the water was coming from to supply all those houses. He told me that the water table was being drained and there was no backup plan. I guess denial works in many arenas. There was historically a reason people avoided building big cities in deserts.
PS Write me with your New England ideas.

    1. I asked the same question lol. My Junior Editor lives in Vegas. I asked him, “Who came to Vegas hundreds of years ago, saw the desert, and thought, ‘This will make an excellent home!’?” Hahaha.

New Hampshire has been on my mind for some time now! I can’t find your email address, can you shoot me one? I see an Elizabeth but since there’s no pic, not sure if it’s you!
