The Non-Fictional Tale of My Adventures

In 2014, I turned down several opportunities to leave Jamaica, travel, and see the world. After saying no to what might have been an amazing experience in Australia, Germany, and then London … I promised myself that for 2015, my New Year’s Resolution was to take risks.

Adventures and Misadventures

This decision catapulted me into the adventure of a lifetime.

In June 2015, I quit my corporate job in payroll and packed my life into three suitcases and a laptop bag to enjoy nomad life in Jamaica. I then traveled to the U.S., and ― after a grueling, years-long process ― became a naturalized citizen.

In 2020, I bought an FJ Cruiser and a travel trailer. I then traveled across Mexico and the American Desert Southwest with my cat in the middle of a global pandemic.

My Debut Novel

Like everyone else, my triumphs have been sprinkled with my fair share of failure and frustration. Even so, each step has taken me closer and closer to my goals. With the help of my family, I turned my hobby into a thriving business and I’ve been our “preferred contractor” for virtually all our clients since 2016. These days, most of my work is on Google’s LLMs.

I also published my debut novel on Halloween in 2018 and have been working on revisions for a second.

The Adventure Continues

This blog documents my adventures and all the lessons I’ve learned as a Jamaican in America. I’ve also shared my adventures in Mexico and look forward to discussing life in Spain. Stick around for the tales of trials and triumphs.

You won’t be disappointed.

      1. Nashville has more bells and whistles with it being a bigger city. They don’t have mountains and the same amount of outdoor things we have here. Sometimes bigger isn’t better.

      2. Atlanta has its bells and whistles too, but you’re never more than ten minutes from a hiking trail. The trails here are gorgeous. And of course, there’s always plenty to do.

Nashville just wasn’t my thing. Also I hate country music so that didn’t help my love for it any lol

      3. Yeah, that’s what won me over with this city, and why I’m here instead of God knows where. I hear the west is even better though. Have you been out there?

      4. When I was a kid. Of course it was with family for a vacation. I hear Portland is a really good place for trail access. Here in Chattanooga we have a Riverwalk and a few trails near downtown. On Signal and Lookout Mountains there are parks where you can walk and hike as well as nearby battlefields.

      5. I’ve heard about Lookout Mountain. I hear that’s pretty amazing. Didn’t know that was in Chattanooga.

I definitely want to test the trails in Portland. I’ve heard great things about that too from the locals.

    1. I think WordPress ate my reply! I was saying I’m sure I’ve been unfollowing you all this time. But sometimes my hand slips and I unfollow by accident and then follow right back and hope you guys don’t notice I’m an idiot lol 😂

  1. Hey Alexis! thanks for following my blog! you have a lifestyle which is the envy of many (myself included!). Keep spreading your joy and journey and I look forward to reading more 🙂

    1. Hi Dimi! My lifestyle is easy to claim for those willing to take the risks I did – haha. Thank you for dropping by and saying hello and you’re welcome for the follow 🙂

  2. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any
problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My site has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like
a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement.
Do you know any techniques to help prevent content from being stolen? I’d truly appreciate it.

    1. Hey, you can always copyright your work. Many blogs do. But people will plagiarize your work anyway. I had the KKK run off with two of mine, but I left that alone. No use bringing those folks down on my head.

    2. Hi there! I don’t typically poke in on others, but thought I would let you know what I would do in the situation. I honestly would seek advice through my law firm as I have purchased a legal package for 19.95 a month. I have a certain numbers of letters that are written on my behalf. If you would like more information, feel free to email me…just so you know. All the best.

  3. Alexis, that took a lot of guts to quit your job and go for it! Kudos on your success. I am looking forward to reading more about your travels.

    Thanks for the follow.

    Cynthia
