If you were hanging around my blog last summer, you may remember how ecstatic I was when I got back from the Atlanta leg of Vans Warped Tour 2017. I had just discovered a new band, and felt the sweet nostalgia from finding something that brings back fond memories of a lost era. For me, that lost era was the glory-days of contempory rock, in the early 2000s.
In The Best Performers on the Atlanta Leg of Vans Warped Tour 2017: Our Last Night, I praised the band and their performance so well that they re-shared the post on their Twitter page. To say I was beyond excited at the simple act of acknowledgement would be an understatement. If I loved them before, I was perfectly obsessed, now.
Towards the end of last year, I learned that they would be coming to Atlanta in the spring. The tickets sold so quickly and so well that they were forced to upgrade their venue to fit more of us. I’m happy to say I already grabbed my ticket, and will be fan-girling away in the crowd.
To boot, the band added I The Mighty, Don Broco, and Jule Vera to their lineup. I don’t know the first two bands (yet!), but Jule Vera was another artiste I discovered at Vans Warped Tour 2017, and loved. I’m pretty excited to see her back on stage!
If the Selective Hearing Tour passes through your neck of the woods, I encourage you to go see them. If you need a bit more encouragement, here’s one of my favourite covers they’ve done: HUMBLE by Kendrick Lamar. Yes, you read that correctly…
And a bonus, my favourite original song from them, Common Ground.

Is live music a big part of your life? Have you seen any good bands, recently? Feel free to recommend some!
I discovered on NPR’s “Live From” show (formerly A Prairie Home Companion) a group that’s been around for a while, but their performance blew my mind: tUnE-yArDs, featuring Merrill Garbus, who usually accompanies herself on all instruments using a loop track, but she’s broadened out to have a band, background singers, etc. I guess you call the genre “eclectic pop.” I’d love to see a tUnE-yArDs review from you, Alexis!
I actually have never heard that song before. Haha, so probably not the best person to review it. Shoot me a link though. I’ll give it a listen. 😄
Selective hearing is what my husband has after too many loud concerts in his youth!
Hahahahahahahaha, sounds like every husband. Concert or no concert.
And then every once in a while they surprise you by reciting something you said when you were 100% sure they weren’t listening. 😂
Good for you! You can’t beat live music for sheer excitement and enjoyment. I am not familiar with this band, but I’ve seen many great acts over the years including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Van Morrison and Madonna, to mention but a few. Of course, if you are lucky enough to live near a big music festival venue like Glastonbury, then you can see many great bands in one long weekend. Enjoy!
Atlanta has a lot of great music venues, but rock isn’t as big here as rap, hip hop and dubstep, so I look forward to the few opportunities I get to see rock bands I love.
I agree that you can’t beat live music. Sometimes I see bands I don’t even know, just for the experience. I love it! I’m doing a few music festivals this year, at least 3, so I’m pretty excited about that too.
Sounds like you’ve seen some great acts yourself though! — especially Bob Dylan and Madonna.
This music is really raw and passionate isn’t it?
It is. That’s why I love them. They pour their heart and soul into their craft.
